尽管接受过军队正规的武术训练，亚历克斯对于规则一直抱着不屑一顾的态度。名义上是格瓦拉城的一名卫兵，亚历克斯利用职务之便干起了走私的勾当，同时向城里的犯罪者提供卫兵的情报，甚至有时亲自下手。这样的生活持续了数年，亚历克斯对于走私过程中接触到的黑市商人的高收入越来越眼红，终于下定决心自己干一票大的，越过中间人直接进货。可惜智商最多只能算平均水平的亚历克斯瞬间就被坑了个血本无归，之前的各种犯罪行为也被揭发丢掉了饭碗。为了生计，亚历克斯加入了黑手套佣兵团。
